Cyclone TU150 u not booting up

Post by jazzman »

Hi,
My TU150 lathe, with DSP rack computer, is hanging on boot up. The screen message is

Quadtel wd 7600 286/386 bios ver3.05.01
copyright 87-91 qudtel corp etc
DSP design ltd ec386/486 single board computer
Bios config v1.3/vga1.0 7th june 94 120006.b04

plus blinking curser.

Hasn't been used for a while, but was working last time (over a year). I've left machine on, to charge battery, but can get no keyboard response (ctrl alt s ) to access bios.

Any help, or recommendations would be welcome !!

You need to set the floppy disc to a 3 1/2" 1.44MB. If the battery goes down it defaults to a 5 1/4" floppy.
Try turning the machine on but then wait a couple of mins before pressing Ctrl+Alt+S. It does take a while for it to enter the Bios sometimes.

Hi,

Thanks for quick reply. I've had the machine on for the last two weeks, to ensure the battery is fully charged, and go to it now and again and try the cont-alt-s, but no joy.

Hi, Try turning it off then back on & then wait a couple of mins before pressing CTRL + ALT + S. Also try ALT + S. It rings a bell that it was just two keys.
It may also be worth trying a different keyboard or plugging it directly in to the computer brake out panel on the front of the rack inside the electrical cabinet. There is just a extension from the Din socket to the side of the electrical box.

ASRS Cyclone Tu150 DSP SETUP
CMOS SET-UP
(Rack type p.c's)

If the p.c. is left with power disconnected for a long period of time, the on board battery may become drained.
This results in the p.c. suffering a "loss of memory".
To re-establish settings use the following procedure.

Turn on computer.
When screen displays:
Starting MS DOS.......
Press Ctrl+Alt+S keys simultaneously to invoke the set-up procedure.
A menu will now appear in the centre of the screen giving set-up options i.e.;
Setup
Extended BIOS Features
System Information
System Security

Using the cursor keys highlight the option "set up", and press return.
Ensure that the 3-1/2" drive is selected (5-1/4” is default) and change the date and time etc, then press F10.
A dialogue box appears to confirm that the changes have been saved.
Press Esc twice to exit set up.
The p.c. will now reboot.

Thanks,
Tried your suggestions, but still no change. Does the screen message mean that the computer has entered the bios, or that it still needs to ?

I think DSP have repaired these in the past, we can't help as we don't have any test rigs (racks)
the PC card was from a company called DSP Design Ltd in Chesterfield: www.dspdesign.com
