1996 Triac PC: Upgrades?

Post by berga » Mon 31 Mar , 2008 18:15 pm

Hello all,

At my job there is a Triac P.C., which, at the moment has little to no functionality. It runs from a Windows 98 PC with VR Milling v2.18 software.

I've been digging through paperwork and accessories, hoping to try and get some better performance out of it; right now it's so finicky to use that everyone's afraid to try. If instead it had some new hardware and software and people could just throw in MasterCam G-code, I feel like it would get plenty more use.

So here is what I know about it (not much). In May of 2002 it had an EPROM upgrade: now apparently the chip is version 2.0. We have an email from the Denford people from long ago stating that because it runs DOS-based files, it won't be possible to upgrade to use VR Milling 5.2.

If this is the case, what needs to be done with this machine to make it more functional? Is this machine compatible to have the USB upgrade, and how much would this cost? Are there other things that people usually install in these machines?

Thanks!

OK, short update.

I found an identification PDF file on this forum and I've identified our machine to be the Triac rack configuration. So apparently, the proper upgrade would be the USB control card and VR Milling 5.

I have sent an email to our dealer inquiring about pricing for the USB controller upgrade and software. In the meantime, can anyone give me a ballpark figure for what we're likely to spend?

Thanks.

Hi,

The Upgrade is a UGR0007.

Price will be £1200 ish, not sure exactly and it may then require labour to have it fitted.

The links are attached.
