Pewter Casting in Montana

I have been running a workshop in Montana.

We have been working with several teachers and Microrouter compacts.

One of the schools in Harlem MT have been producing cast Pewter castings in MDF.

These have been designed in either Quick CAM 2D or in Pro/Desktop them QuickCAM Pro.

I attach a few pictures as curriculum ideas.

So the pewter is poured directly into the mdf? I assume the die is a one shot die. How far do you fill the mould? - just to the top or overflowing?

BTW whats the melting point of pewter?

MDF can be cast into multiple times.

The ones shown have been just poured then sanded from the back.

We are cutting some more today and I will upload some images.

This time we have made a fill hole in the mould and G clamped a back on. It works great.

We have also cast into model board and the mould does not look to be marked. Could cast 20 times plus if we could afford pewter!

We are melting the stuff in a 500W lead pot.

These designs are great - do they polish up nicely then ?
It just goes to show that you need imagination, as well as the best software and machines.

Pewter is 240 Deg C, but a Pewter + Lead mix is lower at 190 deg C

I have looked all over in the UK for somthing but have not found anything. I suspet that if you get a pan you may well be able to melt the pewter with a hot air gun /paint stripper then just pour out of the pan.

Brilliant Steve! Thanks. Got one on order. That is exactly what we are after.
Now ( ) since you are on the case any ideas for a fnc file for a vacuum forming face mould thing. We have a 26000 pro and would like to make a 3d model positive face but my pro desktop skills are limited!
