Starturn 8 cnc program/software

Post by nickyjones2 » Fri 20 Apr , 2007 3:12 am

We have acquired a starturn cnc machine in the year 1990's but we have not used the said machine because there were no software and manual included.

In line with this we would like to request your good office to download the starturn 8 software and manual. So we can use this machine for instructional purposes in our school.

Would like to know the functions of the following parts dc speed controllers, slave board, and bus board. i would also like to know if the RS 232 serial link can be change to universal serial link.

Hoping for your kind consideration.

Hi - have you tried this Startutn software from here :
https://www.denford.ltd.uk/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=51
There are also lots of other bits of Starturn information on this forum - you just need to spend some time reading through the relevant posts

If you could attach a photo of the machine and the electronics, we may be able to help find more information

You would never get the machine working with USB as it is - you would have to retrofit it with some new CNC controller and PC software

To run the machine from the printer port (or possibly USB) you would have to look at alternative software to control the machine.
See this topic where another member has upgraded to use Mach3 to control is original StarTurn 4:

We can do our best, but I'm afraid we can't just wave a magic wand and get your machines working :!:

We can no longer officially support this age of machine - most of us here have never seen a Starturn 8, let alone used one.

We can help with general advice and how other forum users have upgraded their machines to use windows based software, you really need to investigate the best way to get them working for yourself.

The Starturn machine you have is very old and will ONLY run with the software here...
viewtopic.php?t=192

This software can only run in DOS mode via RS232.
It can NOT run using USB
It can NOT run inside a Windows DOS box
It can NOT run using a USB <-> RS232 converter

Sorry to be negative, but with a machine that is almost 20 years old you must be thankfull if you manage ot get it to run at all !!!

HI

As Mr Magoo said without major rebuilding / rewiring the machine will only run off serial comms in Dos.

I have a manual for a Starturn 4 for a BBC. Not sure how different the 2 systems are.

Cheers

Dave
