Problems with Novatun Lathe.

Using a 1998 Novaturn Lathe with Electric serial no. OC00202355
Operating Win XP sp3 and VR Turning V1.53
Machine info: Processor:586 Mask1, Level:6 OEMid:0

Problems:

1. Machine does not like canned cycles, (G71 and G76 tried) it operates ok up to the 2nd line of the G71or G76 code then hangs.
Noticed message at bottom of 'Editor' window when it hung using G76, it stated: Expanded code G32 X12430 Z-28.50 F1.5. (No problems with 2D or
3D simulation).

2. Measured voltage across 'Pulse' and GND on Smartstep board at 6.2v with Z axis stationary or moving, unfortunately no longer has scope after CRT
tube packed up. same voltage across 'Reset' and GND.

3. I noticed that the axis drive motor casings run hot, Z axis 50C and X axis 32C even not being used for over 20min. The Tool-post heat sink was
recorded at 48C even though it has not been used.

Any help appreciated

George

Hi George,
It is normal for the motors to run hot, the axes motors are energised while stationary to hold position and the turret motor is constantly holding the turret disk in position so this is not a problem.

The expanded code says X12430 so this would be a move out of limits.

Steve,

Many thanks for the re-assurance on temperatures, any ideas as to who might be able to help re problems with canned cycles, I am suspecting the encoder but I'm not an expert in that area.

Will check program code again re out of limits, again this could be linked to encoder as I know there was plenty of movement left in the -Z direction

George
