Servo alarms 412,424
I have a 1988 denford cyclone with an air jaw chuck.The lathe was working about 6 month ago but has been lying dormant. Last week i removed the air chuck and fitted a conventional 3 jaw chuck for more practical applications.
I did how ever leave the air chuck connected lying at the side of the machine incase of of any problems. But the machine says the following
414 SERVO ALARM :X AXIS DETECT ERROR
424 SERVO ALARM Z AXIS DETECT ERROR
NOT READY ALARM
The machine will not run
One of the guys thinks it's because i rotated the spindle when fitting the new chuck any suggestions welcome ?

If you look through these option bits, you can hopefully work out how to turn off (or turn on) the chuck you have:

Turning it off should stop the machine checking air pressure/ chuck open/closed switches - which is why I think it won't power up the servo's

Can you check that the machine parameters are still present?

press the param/dgnos button repeatedly to switch between diagnostics and parameters
then arrow up/down or pageup/down to view more parameter or diagnostic bits.

Yeah i figured this out and the parameters are all there but what gets me is i still have the air chuck connected as i anticipated problems which i have a three jaw manual on the machine. Will the appropriate parameter change when i still work the foot pedal from a 0 to 1 or vice versa ?
I take it there are other sensors that measure that air flow ? as i can see some soleniods actuators as there are no electronics in the air chuck ?
do you know the correct perameter to change ?
I will have to look for the ladder logic book for this machine to help

The 412 and 424 alarms are nothing to do with the chuck but are axes servo alarms for the X and Z axes.
I think Martin was asking if there are any values stored in the parameters or if due to the machine not being used the battery backup has failed and they have defaulted to 0's.
In 1988 I suspect the machine had analogue drives. Have you looked in the panel to see if there are any warning lights lit on the drives.

Go to the troubleshooting OC page and this will tell you the diagnostics to check to find what the alarm means.

Not ready and servo alarms for both axes could also just mean that the logic is not enabling the drives to power up - possibly because air pressure is low, or it thinks there is a problem with the chuck.
As it was working before the chuck was removed, I'm guessing it's a related sensor/input problem that won't allow machine to be powered up for safety reasons.

this would tell me voltage short alarm using the advice given top another fellow forum member see below.

Have you the electrical schematic to hand ? There might be an electrical interlock with a monitoring switch of some kind (eg pressure) which prevent power getting to the drives.
I never used to pay much attention to the diagnostic bits - like I said before, it's just an indication that the drives aren't powered up (which you already knew)

Have you checked all the curcuit breakers in the transformer box.

Chaps what pictures would you like ?
I checked the circut breakers but all are ok in the transformer box.
As for the electrical schematic i will have to look for one and get back to you

I can't see how the chuck would effect the axis.
The Fanuc manual says 414 is "An error has occured in the digital servo system of the X-axis." & not a detect error. not quite sure of which one we are looking at.
I will scan the info on LV alarm.
