Micromill 2000 year 2002

I just bought a Denford Micromill 2000 year 2002 and I recieved some software disks and manuals with it, but the problem that I am having is that I think they are the wrong disks and manuals. Can any one tell me if I have the right disks to work with this machine and on windows XP , and where I can get the right manuals. Will Mastercam v7 work to program this machine? Also what is the round plug on the left side towards the rear for? Here some pics so you know what i am talking about. Thanks

Hi,

Unfortunatley i can see that you have a PCB missing that sits on top of the board located at the top left of the panel

The board is the one that handles all the communications and has all the inteligence for the system so is not cheap

I suggest you ask Denford Inc for pricing on a replacement. You may as well go for the VR Milling 5 upgrade which includes software and the PCB

What board do you have?

If the 7 segment display is Red then its a Denstep So you are limited to speed of manufacture and RS232 Comunication.

Just thought can you add a photo of the board as there is an EPROM fitted to it depending on the Version written on it you may have DOS software

Here a picture of the board, also you will see on the bottom 2nd and 3rd connector there are to red marks what goes connected there, the old owner had two wires going to a small relay on the bottom. was that right? Thanks

Actually the wires from that board went to the round plug on the side, same with the ones from the relay. The old owner cut them from the plug and put them together bypassing the plug on the side. Does anyone know what that round plug was for, how do I bypass it if I have to, what wire goes where? Thanks

I downloaded the Vr Milling but it asks me for a registration disk but i don't know which one it is or if i have it, all the disks I have are shown below, does anyone if any of those are it. If not where do I get one. Thanks

The two red marks are correct for the wires,

The one 2 terminals in is a 0V and the other is the Guard input.

These come from a relay contact or guard switch.

As for the software it looks like you have DOS disks so have dos software.

To run VR Milling you would have to buy a licence.

I guess the dos software should run as is but may have required a dongle!!

Thanks for the info, but do these wires have to be connected for the machine to work? If so do you know what wire goes where, or where I can get a wiring diagram for this machine? Do you know anybody I can contact that deals with these machines, and that would be able to tell exactlly what I would need to make this machine work. I am willing to pay for the things that I need if they are not too expensive. I already have found and contacted a couple of companies that sell CNC controllers, and they all say they have conversions that will work, but I would like to make it work with all the Denford stuff if possible. Thanks for your time.

Your control card looks like a Denstep and if the year of your machine is 2002, chances are that the software is VR CNC Milling v 2.**. If you can find the registration floppy for VR CNC Milling, then you will be able test out whether you can utilize the software. VR CNC Milling will work on computers with Windows 98 and above. The software is most likely not registered to you and is registered to the school that you purchased & you may not have been provided all the proper cd's/floppies for the control software. If you do have a Denstep Control card you can upgrade to VR CNC Milling v. 5**. Call us at 800.886.9750 for a proper quote. As for other items you may need to make your machine operational, it is difficult to determine without a proper evaluation of your machine which is difficult to do via pictures, phone or e-mail. When you call our office, provide us with an e-mail or fax and we can send you a proper service quote.

Perhaps the wiring diagrams can be downloaded to this forum in the form of a PDF.

I just looked at my machine and it looks like mine has one more relay than the diagram shows? Its the one I'm pointing to in the picture, I think its got some thing to do with the plug on the side. I think i am going to have to call AES because they might have added that plug to it, because it looks like the hole was drilled after the cabinet was painted white. Thanks

The relay you are pointing to is the Auxiliary Relay (AR) it has a 12vdc coil.
The round plug on the side of the cabinet is for a robotic arm/parts feeder and the AR relay is wired to it. The coil terminal, on the AR relay, A1 is wired to Terminal Block 2, pin 6 (Extra Outputs 12). Terminal A2 on the coil is wired to terminal A2 on the next relay to the left, the Spindle Go Relay (SGR) and that wire goes up to Terminal Block 10, pin 3 (+12vdc).
The Outputs on the control card are switched to ground when activated completing the circuit to the coil (energizing), closing the relay contacts.

The relays from left to right are;
Main Relay (MR) - 110 vAC Coil
Emergency Stop Relay (ESR) - 110vAC Coil
Guard Relay (GR) - 12vAC Coil (YES AC)
Spindle Go Relay (SGR) - 12vdc coil
Auxiliary Relay (AR) - 12vdc coil

The connectors with the red marks are for the round connector on the side of the cabinet.
The connector on the left, Terminal Block 8, pin 5 (Extra Inputs 10) is wired to pin A on the round connector.
The connector on the left, Terminal Block 9, pin 2 (Inputs GRD,ground) is wired to pin B on the round connector.

The machine will operate with out this all connected, it is only needed if a robotic parts feeder is added.

The fuses in the flip up fuse holders to the far left of the relays are (from left to right)
F1 Main Power - 10 amp
F2 Transformer - 3.5 amp
F3 Fan - 3.15 amp
F4 Spindle - 6.3 amp
F5 24v from Transformer - 6.3 amp

Thank you I just checked my machine and it is wired just like you said, but it also had wires on the AR Relay terminals 11 and 14 that went to the round plug, and wires on Terminal Block 8 pin 5, and Terminal Block 9 pin 2 that also went to the round plug. Someone cut all the wires going to the round plug and joined 2 and 2 together, i removed them before turning on the machine. I want to put them back where they belong on the round plug do you know where they all go connected to. Also if they are not connected will the machine still work? Thanks for the help.

Do you know if there is any way to test this machine without the Vr software. I plan on buying the software from Denford, but I want to make sure the machine is fine before I spend the money, since some one cut those wires I want to make sure notting is fried before I buy it. Thanks
