Again thanks for the info. Well I've tried everything but no go, all I'm getting is garbage coming out. Studying the manual further (Section 33 P99) it mentions a 'Terminal Strip' for Auxillary Inputs and Outputs. Is this something that needs to be configured before the RS232 port functions correctly?

I was a bit confused for a moment - linking 2 to 3 would mean linking the transmit (TX) and recieve (RX) lines together :( After looking at the dwg I think what you're referring to is the shield symbol - the dotted loop goes around the wires 2,3,7 - meaning that the braided shield goes around those...

https://www.denfordata.com/downloads/dos ... FTWARE.zip

Just had a look at the serial wiring arrangement for PC to Orac.
Can anyone explain the 'looping' of the pins 2,3 and 7 from pin 1 in the diagram. Does it mean pin 1 is to 'ground'?

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for the replies. I seem to have solved the problem of the X slide 'creeping' by swopping the drive cards over..........not sure why! I'm slowly getting to grips with the TLOs and Program Datum. Is it me or does the Orac lose it's way if you stop the program mid-way and re-start? Also can anyo...

OK I think I'm getting to grips with this, but it seems that when the program ends and returns to the main menu the X axis continues to move albeit very slowly and as a consequence loses its datums!
Is this a programming error or could it be a drive card problem? it is a replacement.

OK folks thanks for your replies. I'm OK with the concept of Tool Length Offsets as a general principle; I have programmed many types of lathes with different controls which all conform to those basic principles. However the way in which the Orac control works eludes me. I'm beggining to think there...

Orac (or any lathe) Programming Problem

HELP!

I just cannot get my head around the whole Program Datum, Work Datum, Tool 0 and subsequent Tool Offsets thing.

How do you establish a Tool Change Position and how do you reference this to the work datum?

Any help very much appreciated.

Have you looked at the manual in the downloads section - there should be one in there for the CD20 which gives some information on the LEDs and what they mean. Cheers Dave Hi Dave Yes according to the 'troubleshooting' guide the first red LED suggests an 'Overload' - short circuit in the motor. How...

OK I have just swapped the cards over and the X axis now works fine and problem is now with the Z axis with the same Red LED illuminating.
Could this be a problem with the drive card?

probably your typo, but they're not servos on the orac (unless mr denford made a special one) they're stepper motors, quite different :) Oops thought they were servo motors, I'm a bit of a bonehead when it comes to the workings of these machines. Anyway thanks for the replies. Regarding the X axis ...

More Orac X axis problems

Hi there, can anyone help. I have an Orac lathe and the X axis has just stopped working. I can hear the servos fire up when I release the emergency stop button. Both motors are holding their positions, the Z axis jogs fine but the X axis servo will switch off and de-energise the motor as soon as I t...
