Re: TDS 1/1 G.B.L. drivetrain modification

Thank you Dazz for input. Would you be so kind and take detailed photos of your drivetrain? I have to consider link belt use between spindle and intermediate shaft. But tell me why would it be necessary to modify spindle nose to take poly-vee belt? I plan to remove all the gears and elements mounted ...

Re: TDS 1/1 G.B.L. drivetrain modification

I'm going to change pulleys ratio completely. First of all standard V-belt will be replaced by multi-v belt. Much better 'gripping force'. Assume option 1: direct drive form motor to spindle, assume pulley ratio 2:1 then max rpm on spindle will be 2800/2=1400rpm. Using VFD I can safely speed the ...

TDS 1/1 G.B.L. drivetrain modification

Hi,

my TDS 1/1 G.B.L. is still in refurbishing process. I plan to make some big changes to head stock. Please tell me what you guys think about that my idea: change original motor to 2.2 kW (3 H.P.) / 2800 rpm@60Hz, remove intermediate pulley shaft assembly, remove ML100-137, ML100-138, ML100-139 ...

Re: Denford Vicerory TDS1 PCS in a sorry state _ Rebuild?

And some questions on painting: what exactly paint did you use? Have you got Sigma Coatings product line name or product number? Did you use any primer or just mixed two part of epoxy? How did you paint those complex shapes with the foam roller? Or maybe you used foam roller for large flat surfaces ...

Re: Denford Vicerory TDS1 PCS in a sorry state _ Rebuild?

Hi guys,

my Viceroy is still waiting for restoration. Your work JohnR. is impressive. Can you tell (and post some more pics) something more about headstock removal and fitting it back to the lathe's bed? How did you align it and what accuracy did you get? After small investigation on my lathe ...

Re: ER32 Chuck

Thread replica would be very helpful, but how to make it on my metric lathe?? If it was imperial version it would be easy to use MT3 arbor with a steel sleeve mounted on it, and cut 8tpi thread on 38.1mm O.D. and then skim it down to exactly the same O.D. as on spindle nose. Mine is metric.

Re: TDS1/1 lathe weight

Hi,

whan I was buying mine TDS 1/1GB I was informed that it weights ca 350kg (the lathe itself w/o accessories). Look at the back cover of the owner's manual: it says the lathe weights 350kg.

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1GB Metric in Good condition

Does anyone know if there were TDS 1/1 GBL without chromed slideways available? How to check if my ways are chromed? Now I'm little worried as 'chromed ways' feature was one of the key features (along with auto cross feed, size-to-capability ratio, old-good-english-made-machine, lightweight) that ...

Re: Hi from a Newbie and some questions.....

I have 3/4 HP (550W) motor in mine lathe too. It is pretty weak indeed. It seems there where two types of motors installed in these lathes - 3/4HP and 1.5HP. Why is that? Do you guys think that it is good idea to mount something bigger than 1.5HP (1100W)? Does the lathes' mechanics withstand it?

Re: Viceroy Lathe 38 Tooth Stud Gear For Imperial Threads

What error when cutting 8 TPI with this 38T stud gear? Is it accurate enough to use this 8 TPI thread when making precision tooling mounted on lathe's spindle?

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1GB Metric in Good condition

I can't recall if there are some holes above the nameplate:/ If my memory sevres me right there is a difference in apperance between carriage vees and tailstock vees. It can be seen on the photo ( DSC_9526.jpg ) in my post here:

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1GB Metric in Good condition

This is a really nice one! There is one interesting plate above lathe's nameplate at the first photo attached. It says the lathe has chromed slideways. I don't have such a plate on mine TDS. Does it mean I don't have a chromed slideways on my lathe?? :?

Re: Headstock / bed alignment.

Thank you Dazz for your ideal. You're right. I'll not detach headstock from lathe bed. Instead i'll try to figure out if my bed is twisted. Unfortunatelly i can't use your laser method. I purchased a precission machine level (i hope it is a proper name) of class 0,02/1000mm. It means that level will ...

Re: Headstock / bed alignment.

Hi YouraT,

I bought TDS 1/1GBL last weekend and it seems that it has a slight headstock/bed misalignment... I turned test steel round bar and there is 0.03mm difference in diameter over about 5cm bar lenght (i used short stock bar not supported with tailstock)... So there is a headstock re ...

Re: Viceroy T.D.S 1/1 GB (L?) lathe question and introdution

Thank you for reply.

2) good point!

3) i was wondering what kind of lead screw is used, say for compound rest. I thought it was 10 t.p.i so dial show only some approximation (2,50mm instead of 2,54mm per rev) but that would be stupid:)

4) it sounds not bad, thanks!

5) now i recall i've seen that ...

Re: Viceroy T.D.S 1/1 G.B - Back gear removal

Did you consider removing headstock apart from the rest of the lathe? Is it bolted only with that 4 small cap screws??!! Are there any setpins or what? It looks pretty wierd compared to lathe's opinion as a strong, rigid and precision lathe. How it is aligned with the bed ways?
