Tail stock issue disassembling

Post by Agors »

Hello guys,

I’m having lots of issue disassembling the tail stick of my viceroy.

I need to do it cause the adjustment is completely off, and I need to understand how to make it work.
I think the adjustment is a lever on the side that broke a certain point in his life.

Can you please help me telling me how to disassemble it?
Do you have a graph for this version? I searched but wasn’t matching.

Mine should be the educational lathe version TD

Hi, I just saw your post, apologies if you have solved your problem by now.
I have a copy of an Assembly drawing ML100/700 which looks pretty similar to your tailstock.
The drawing shows two clamping screws which oppose each other and can move the body from side to side when it isn't
clamped to the bed. That might be the apparently broken screw you can see in your picture next to the clamp handle.
However I don't see the opposite screw, so it may be a different model of tailstock.
Anyway, it looks like you will need to drill the screw out, or maybe try and drill a hole up the centre and try an "Easyout", I don't think this will work though because it most likely broke when being over tightened. It's shown as 5/16 Whitworth by the way.
I can scan in the drawing if you can't find it in the files section.

Thanks,

Unfortunately I have not fix it yet.

I’ll try to remove the broken bolt today (welding a nut?)

I looked in the download section but appear to be different.
If you cs. Upload a picture that would help.

I’ll post updates later

Ok,
I managed to remove the broken pin, now I need to understand how the adjustment works.

Can you see any issue from the picture attached?
I guess it’s an eccentric bush that change the position.

Your tailstock is not the same as the one shown in the scanned drawing, it looks like the side ways movement is produced by screwing the bolt in and out of the keyway piece, the bolt itself can't move because it is trapped by a blocking pin.
You can either replace the broken bolt or do a modification to make the tailstock movement similar to the drawing one.
I think I would do the modification, looks to be quite simple to do.

Thanks for the scans;

In the end, I fixed the broken screw and tried, and as expected the regulation works perfectly.

So problem solved!
Thanks for the support!
