the begining of the end then eh?

you must have been using CAD before that, I was working in a place in '86 and they had CAD (though the drawings didn't improve)

yup as per web for this year, offer date has stretched out now due to delays with paint drying/me being tired/lazy (delete least likely excuses

Here's a start on transcribing the book, done with a bottle of wine by the pool,

then the wine ran out

I'll do some more as the wine/weather allows - if anybody adds to it post it back here to save on duplication

I will do from page 1 to about page 8 - that seems to cover the 280 series lathes.

I noticed that there are 'Senior' milling machine drawings in there too - could be of interest to a lot of home workshop owners.

Anyone know of a Senior mill needing a good home? They are just about the right size for my workshop, and a mill will be my next acquisition one the lathe is installed.

Hi guys...

Question for Admin - is there a folder on DLNT1 called SMART (or somthing similar - maybe SMARTDB?)

Ian V entered much of the drawings into a DOS based Database called SMART, but back in the 80s we never trused computers so we always kept "the book" up to date too - good job realy 'cause the DOS DB was a sod to use and was always crashing

If it exists I'll have a go at resurecting it.

Nah, I knew somebody else would be more interested in the early ones.

I was starting from where the CNC drgs seem to appear.

Andy B - Ok, I'll continue forward....

Observations so far... It seems that as the Title suggests, that this was the book for drawings drawn after they were made in the workshop (in the majority) My logic is that there are no machine drawings like lathe bed, or mill column - the serious bits

Oh the sun & the sound of birds (feathered ones) when will it stop.

It will be interesting and helpful to find out the logic behind the Denford numbering system!

Having started on typing up the 'SK...' numbers, there are very few actual machine parts. The plates and labels appear later in the register (page 103) with 'CH...' numbers (CH=chart?).

I have a copy of the "280 Synchro - Speed Control" drawing, which is numbered SL100/100. The component parts on it mainly have SL100 1xx references.

So do the other assembly drawings for this lathe have numbers like SL101/100, or maybe SL200/100?
If Admin has time to have a look and post a copy up, maybe we can work it out.....

Hi,

Apperently the SK numbers are layouts of various machines, sometimes parts, CIM systems layouts, classroom proposals etc...
CH are charts (switchplates etc...)

The machine parts are under another designation according to machine name (eg, TR1/100 is the original Triac spindle assembly and TR1/101 would be the original Triac spindle casting. TR17/101 might be the latest revision of the spindle head casting for a Triton)
So this is OK for our current drawings, but we don't know what the designations are for say a 280VS lathe - there doesn't seem to be any record of the older drawings (possibly its whats been archived/microfilmed).

PS - I am putting the Charts CH282 and CH271 into the downloads section today - as requested by AndyB

Here is my bit done - all the SP and CH series, plus the SK series from pages 1-8 and 10-14 (courtesy of Triac Whizz).
I've also added a sheet to start identifying the drawing series codes to machines - e.g. BVS= 280VS lathe, SL= 280 Synchro lathe, TR=Triac, etc.

after a long delay... ho hum, well I am rather busy at present...

Here's the latest version with Andy B's bit added in, (good work Andy) up to page 26 but some are missing cos I didn't have the print outs with me when I was inputting

- I'll rectify that as time allows.
