TOE80 Turret Problem

Post by jamesgates1000 » Thu 07 Mar , 2019 10:31 am

The turret on my Cyclone would very occasionally not tool change, but was fine if turned off and on again.

This morning it has started doing other strange things,

It will spin past the tool it is indexing too then do an extra rotation before stopping on it.

Sometimes it will immediately move to the part other times it will wait for anything up to a minute then move and sometimes it doesn't move at all.

Occasionally it just spins over and over.

Of course this has happened while doing a urgent job for a new customer, so for now I am just struggling on until I can finish these parts then will look properly.

I have rotated the encoder slightly in either direction(couldn't find the strobe diagnostic bit for this mine is Fanuc 21i and densest have 6.7 which is mentioned in another post) and lubed the shot bolt but this doesn't seen to have made too much difference.

The proximity switch in the top panel seems to be functioning correctly as the light goes on and off when it should do.

A bit of dirty coolant did leak out of the back panel where the encoder is. I guess it could just need taking out and cleaning.

No alarms coming up.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi all,

Still having issues with the tool turret, have taken it apart replaced seals and the bump stops(which had pretty much disintegrated).
'
It did seem better. Some jobs are fine, some still getting the same issues as the original post...

It will spin past the tool it is indexing too then do an extra rotation before stopping on it.
Sometimes it will immediately move to the part other times it will wait for anything up to a minute then move and sometimes it doesn't move at all.
Occasionally it just spins over and over.

Anyone have any ideas, I have over 2000 small parts to do this week and it may turn out to be very painful if I cant get this sorted!

I had this issue, so pulled the changer, and stripped it down. Turned out one of the wires had snapped to the switches in the back of the turret.

Re-soldered and it worked fine.

The above issue was solved b y cleaning oil out for the encoder.

Now the problem has come back, any tool change apart from to tool 1, the turret just spins infinitely.

The encoder has 4 pairs of photoemitter/photodiodes inside and slots for the on and off positions. All of the bits are as they should be except bit 4 which is only meant to be high just for tool 8 but is constantly high. I have checked the others with a multimeter and they register 24v when over a slot and nothing when the beam is broken.

But the one which corresponds to bit 4 is 24v either way.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Have you checked that you have soldered the encoder back in correctly. The tabs are quite small & close together so you may have bridge 2 connectors.

I never unsoldered the encoder from the machine and have double checked if there is a short to that wire but can't see anything.
Got a feeling that the phot diode has died, someone is going to attempt a repair for me.

Please can you tell me if the control uses the parity bit?

Inside the turret box it is wired to the fifth position from the right on the bottom and nothing is in the top.
The Denford electrical manual doesn't to mention it either.

Looking at the electrical drawings the Parity signal on pin 5 is not used.
