I knew you'd have the answer Andy!
How are you getting on with the Synchro, did you ever do the translation gears?

It's numbering is part of the toolpost drawings... and looks like some tooling associated with their manufacture.

Actually I've found what I think is an error in one of the drawings.

In ML100/512C FEED NUT ENGLISH the thread form is given as 1/2" x 10tpi modified square thread (LH). This is obviously the cross slide nut but in the drawing for the cross slide screw ML100/514 the thread form is given as 1/2" dia x 10tpi (LH) ACME FORM (as you'd expect). The metric nuts are usually modified square section but I think that the nut thread for the English nut here is mis-labeled and should actually be ACME, like it's mating screw, not modified square thread.

Hello, I have a 1984 Viceroy 280 Synchro with the 8 position imperial gearbox, does anybody have drawings for this lathe? I am trying to determine what size the stud gear should be.

I don't *know* the answer and I can't find a specific drawing but if you look at my post further up "Stud gears A-G for metric gearbox lathes" you'll see that the 24 tooth "D" letter gear is annotated differently to the rest of the set of 7. It doesn't specifically say 'metric' like the other 6 and includes the text 'special stud gear for reversing bracket' which the others don't include.

Added to that Page 13 of the replacement parts list shows the stud gears as 42 and 24 teeth. 42T must be the gear that meshes with the pair of 32 tooth reversing idlers and the 24T is the first driver for the end train I guess. The drawing number in the parts list also matches the stud gear 'd' drawing number ML115/948.

Pretty sure it's that one - 24Teeth, 16DP, 20PA

As far as I can tell, if its an imperial lathe with the 8 position gearbox, and you are using it to cut imperial threads, that stud gear should be 24T, drg No. ML.115/948.

Thanks for the replies, I suspected the stud gear should be 24 teeth but reassuring to have confirmation. Now I have to find one!
