Hi All, This one is rather embarassing as its the result of rough treatment when removing the 4th Axis to free up room on the bed.
Now I have finished cutting my 2D stuff I have reattached the 4th Axis to the bed and the memory came back to me from when i disconnected the communication cable a few months ago with an ape like twisting pulling motion!!!!!
Needless to say it hasn't done the connections any favours and I now have 4 pairs of wires that should be connected to the contacts within the plug. I'm pretty sure I can get it all back together again as nothing is actually broken but would like some info on:
How the wires are paired

Re: 4th Axis rough treatment
Ah! doesn't look like I will be able to fix this afterall as i've damaged the plug trying to get the pin contacts out. looks like i'll be ordering a replacement cable.

If it's a 8 wire motor then use the following.
