As the question seems to crop up often and the above diagram dosn't show the usual power input requirements, I've done a sketch of how the power should be connected.
In the past we have put 28VAC to both drive and logic inputs, but have found that upgraded Nextmove top boards would shut down with 28vac to the logic. Hence a smooth 24V DC is supplied to the logic...

(Some machine may have 18VAC to the drives which is also ok - the main thing being to supply 24VDC to the logic)
(the GND connection to shield is often left unconnected)
