Can anyone help?
I have just acquired a viceroy TDS 1/1. It requires a new drive belt for the head stock. I have pieces of belt to use but I am finding it difficult to thread it through. Is there a particular method to follow and how long should the belt be.

Thanking you in anticipation.
Alan Davenport.

I fitted a new belt to my Viceroy as well, it was/is Nu-T link belt.
At one point I thought I was going to have to turn the lathe upside down to thread it through.
The problem is that the belt is quite stiff when new and it projects out sideways, catching on the side of the access hole.
If you have removed your old belt its too late for this, but if your old belt is still in position you can use it to pull the new belt through, just tape it on.
It might be an idea to put a strip of "Gaffer" or "Duct" along the outside face of the new belt to help stop it catching on the sharp edges and jamming up.
Regarding the length, once the belt is in position you can add or subtract links as required.
I made a little tool for turning the link rivets which helped make adjusting the belt length easy.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Les.T.

Get some light string and stick it to the pulley with blu-tak, turn the pulley to pull it round and then when you have it threaded right through fix it to the link belt and use the string to pull the belt around.
