Viceroy 280 vs Micromaster CNC Help!!!!

i´m a student in my last year of industrial engineering, and I need all the information available for this machine, manuals, diagrams, sketches, CNC, or any kind of information that may help me. I put some pictures, and thanks for the aswer to this post.

You mean the motor doesn't work? It looks like the wiring diags for an Easiturn would be very similar (no I don't have any) try a seach on the site.
If the Variable frequency drive is duff you can easily find another similar one to fit. If you're doing industrial engineering it'll be right up your street.

Is that the pictures of your machine? doesn't look like its ever been used.

This machine is identical to mine, except I dont have the CNC control pod on the right. I also need the info on the machine, and requested some help approx a month ago.

I dont think there is any relevelant info on the site ( no criticism inteneded ), and Denford have said they dont have the resources to copy / scan all the drawings / manuals to place on the web.

I think I will just put a normal parallel CNC control on mine and run it from Mach 3.

Not much of a cnc then is it? :lol: do you mean it has the control on the top on the left?

Anyway after an hour of curiosity you would want to throw the control out the window (not quite cutting edge now), so Mach3 is a wise choice.

Well, I finally got all the muck cleaned off the machine.

Some questions though :

The Steppers are Sigma Instruments 21-3450........ Now I know the 34 and 50 means NEMA 34 size and 5" length, but the 21 ?? Does this mean 2.1A per phase ? Cant find the spec of this motor at all on the web, or an equivalent, and I need to buy 2 stepper drivers to suit the motors ??

Is there a manual / wiring diagram for the machine that has the "GSM Electrical" power supply in the base of teh rhs of the cabinet ? Dont need a full manual, just the wiring diagram will help.

Hi,

The thing is, I already have at least 4 off 3 Amp stepper drivers sitting on the shelf, and I dont want to buy yet more if they are capable of driving these motors.

then suck it and see. :)

if you put a 3A fuse before the drives then they can't draw more then that, if they blow the steppers need bigger drives

OK, Now I have the power supply working :)

Seems also that the GSM PSU has the X and Z stepper drivers mounted on the frame as well. These use SAA1027 bipolar drivers with MJ10012 10A darlingtons on the outputs.

I think these will be very slow given the switching time of the darlingtons ( avg 5us ).

Now to my question :

The spindle encoder is mounted such that it collects pulses from a 30 tooth gear. It only has 2 wire output though ? and tracing the cables it appears to go straight to the "missing" control panel. Further, it doesnt appear to have any part number markings on it either :(

Is it inductive, NPN / PNP ? Any one have any ideas ?

I agree. However, the specs for "current" inductive switches on Farnell / RS quote a figure of 1Khz max........... and with a spindle speed of 2500 x 30 teeth on the gear gives a freq of 75 khz!

I think the switch is a N/O or N/C type according to similar ones again in Farnell catalogue.

Further Mach 3 doesnt like too many pulse per rev, so I might have to set to and make something to replace the exisiting encoder plate

Hi Keith ,

I'd change to a Hall Effect and a 2 slot disk with one slot larger than the other as is suggested for use with Mach3 , it will give you a much cleaner signal in the long term , and save all the problems

Hello Guys,

There is a local school that has one of these exact machines, but the controller is not working.

The machine is in very good condition and i would like to get it working again.
Can someone tell me what torque and voltage are the stepper motors it has?

the manual only says they are 200 steps per rev, 3.5 amps and 1.1ohms, but no torque and no voltage rating, and the motor plate is unreadable.

I appreciate all your help.
