Viceroy tds 1/1 gb

Post by Jon Harley » Sun 28 Apr , 2013 20:00 pm

Hello. I have recently purchased a 1976 Viceroy tds 1/1 gb and it several issue that I need help with.
1. It is a metric lathe, it has no cutting and feed chart, nor does the manual. where can I get one?
2.The safety interlock on the apron only stops the engagement of the half nut when feed is engaged and not visa versa, is this normal?
3.connected with above, is there any where I can get new fiber tumbler gears?
4.I took off the gear change lever to clean the machine and have lost its position. Do I need to take off the front gearbox cover to reposition it?
Thanks for your help, Jon.

Hi Jon

I have a 1/1 gb Metric and mine has the speeds and feeds chart attached I can sort you a photo if thats any help.
Not sure on any of your other questions but in no4 which lever do you mean by gear lever is it the lever on the left near to the door for the gears etc? This would be numbered 1 to 5 and the dial numbered 1 to 5 should always be on the same number as the lever - hope that helps.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

A photo of cutting speeds would be very helpful. yes, the lever is next to the door.

Thanks, Jon.

Hi Jon

sorry about very poor photo quality - the flash seemed to obsecure some detail and torch seemed too dark. I have included two photos and you can just about figure everything out by using both. I will try to sort someting better at the weekend.
The gear lever needs to be moved while running. I always move the gear lever to neutral, at the top, and then set the dial to the required number and finally move the lever to the same number as the dial. All while to lathe is running with the power feeds engaged.
again - not sure if that helps.

Cheers

Paul
