Laptop not communicating with VL300

Post by greg376 » Wed 09 Jun , 2021 10:08 am

Hello, I'd be very grateful for some help with my VL300, which has stopped communicating with my laptop.
It seemed to pause halfway through a job, and 5 minutes later it still wasn't resuming cutting. I went to try and stop the cutting on the Versalaser Control Panel, but it said: "Please verify that the USB cable is connected from this computer to the Versa Laser."
So I pressed the power button on the machine for 5 seconds or so and that turned it off.
Now my laptop won't recognise the VL300 - it gives me this message: Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor request failed).
In the device manager I get :"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".
I'm running Windows 10. Got the latest drivers from the ULS website (2.30.4). Its a USB 3.1 port.
I reinstalled all the drivers, to no avail.
I also tried from another laptop, also running Win10, and I got the same error message (please see photo).
The VL300 doesn't give any signs of life... no LED lights on the USB port, or on the front panel...
Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

seen this quite a lot over the years and it has always been cured by pulling all the plugs (usb/mains) booting everything up and then plugging usb in again. OR un installing everything and reinstalling, OR by plugging in to another USB port.

We have it if a kid is still logged in and rather than signing out selected switch users, so a full reboot normally clears that.

Thanks Pete. We tried all these, even tried with 3 separate laptops with fresh installs of the drivers. Tested the USB power output which said 5v.
The machine is a 2009 build... has it just reached the end of the road?

I just realised you have the VL300, ours is a VL200, as for the end of the road Ours is from 2004! OK we have had to replace one of the internal PSUs and are on our 3rd laser tube, 2nd honeycomb bed and 2nd set of lens/mirrors.

Have you tried a new USB lead? I know you will have as you have already tried everything I can think of.

Sorry can't think of anything else.

Yes, tried a new USB lead.
Just wondering if when your PSU went you got the same kind of error message?

It turns out it was the USB board, which has now been replaced and the machine is working fine again!
