VL3.5 50 watts cutting paper

I have just purchased a VL3.5. The machine, when instructed to cut paper, burns the paper. All the focus etc is correct as i am used to the VL300. We notice that the lense unit moves much slower compared with that of the VL300. I suppose this is the problem. How can this be sorted. Is there any online resource yet to use this machine more efficiently?

Paper Cutting at the VLS system

Hello,

Very important will be, which driver version you are using, because the parameters for the paper are maybe different in each driver version.

Have you tried to reduce the Intensity at the red vector cutting slider bar?

Please let us know.

Bernhard

Early versions of the driver had incorrect feeds for paper.

ULS are beta testing a new driver so untill it is released you can use the latest one we have which is posted on our site and does seem to work OK.

Please let us know what version you have.

Have tried

Hello, Thanks for quick responses. I have tried reducing the intensity. It does not work. The version is 2.15.19A.

I think its the speed with which the laser is moving. Its slow for paper. Please let me know how i can download the driver. I would apreciate if you would put for me link.

I successfully downloaded and installed the driver. It still does not work. Can the driver for the VL300 work with VL3.5? What options do i have? I am willing to try the driver that is being tested. How can i get that?

Apparaently, i had some work to cut 10mm acrylic. I was dissapointed that the VL3.5 could not cut even with high intensity. It definately appears some problem but for sure not the alighnment, focus etc. engraving works fine. Anybody there who went through this in VL3.5?

Try setting the material thinckness to 2mm less & then increase the Intensity of the Vector Cut.

Still doesn't work

I have tried but still does't work. Comparing with the VL300 50watt that i have, i notice that the speed of the laser "head" is faster when cutting with vl3.5 compared to VL 300 which cuts. Back to my old problem, when cutting the paper the speed is slower compared to vl300! On retesting again on various materials and tming, i have noticed that the speed does not change whether i cut cloth, or thick acylic. Could this help you guys to help me. I would conclude that the engraving works fine but its the cutting speed.

Hello,

The machine was collected yesterday by my supplier; Lasers and Optics who are the agents of ULS in Kenya. They told me that the problem was the software that was installed in the vl machine itself. Awrong software was installed by uls! They have since corrected. I can now cut paper very well. But, i cannot still cut 10mm perspex. I am still following up with them. Maybe ULS can help further.

The material database is different for each laser tube. If you have a 50W laser the speed it can cut through a piece of material is faster than that for a 25W laser.

As a result there is a feed and power table for each material for each power of laser tube.

It seems that the values in these tables may be incorrect for some materials. :?

When you select a material you can move a slider to change the power for vector cutting.

ULS are working on changing the settings for all these tables and will issue a new driver once they are all correct, :)

New problems

The local distributor came with various updates of the drivers. Now, its worse. The machine, while engraving sudenly, the x stops moving. The program detects that its running the job. The y continues to move. The laser continues to burn. On pausing or stopping, the x returns and bangs at the home position. If i let the job to get complete (while the door is open) the x returns to the home position as though there was no problem. I have checked the pulley, its okay. My computer is upto date with latest patches for XP professional and antivirus. I have tried re-installing the drivers and also returning back the older drivers but the problem persists.

It may be worth removing the USB lead from the computer then unistalling the ULS software. If you then re-boot the pc & install the software & then plug the USB lead back in & install the drivers.

still doesn't work

I have tried. I had even deleted the uls folder after uninstalling. But, all has failed. Are there other users with VL3.5 in the world? Whats their experience.
