Triac will not start up
Hi All,
my Baldor drive servo Triac refuses to start up, it has been stood for about 6 weeks after working faultlessly for months, now after switch on things click and fans start but the screen is black and there is an 'L' with a flashing dot on the red 7 seg display on the computer rack. Any ideas would be a big help.
Regards
Graham

Re: Triac will not start up
Is it a Triac VMC?
If it is it may just be the power settings on the computer. If it is then there will be a bank on pins on the internal PC with 2 pins labled up "power on" or similar. If it is then you short the 2 pins out with a screwdriver to turn the PC on. Then you can set in Bios "turn on when powered up" or similar.
If it's a earlier pc then check on power up for it beeping if it has a speaker fitted. You will need to power it up with the electriacl box door open.

Re: Triac will not start up
Hi thanks for the reply.
Yes its the 'all in one' with the swing out monitor and tutor kbd, year 2000 when the backup battery has gone flat before the thing still powered up, it just lost all the bios settings, once they were reset all was well.
I will have a look for this jumper in the morning.
Thanks
Graham

Re: Triac will not start up
Does it seem like just the screen thats stopped working? ie, could you still get the machine to home while using it "blind" ?
Is there a boot floppy disk ? does that light up and start spinning on power up?

Hi,
no the machine is dead, the screen flashes blue for a split second when I turn the power off. The floppy is not used to boot the control it has a hard drive that is spinning up but that is all it is doing.
Thanks
Graham

Here are some pictures of the control to help you identify the type.

Re: Triac will not start up
I'd try and determine if the PC is dead, or its the monitor/cabling - we think it's the computer, but it'll be worth unplugging the VGA connector from the rack, and plugging it into a laptop/desktop to rule the monitor out.
Also, have a search for dspdesign on the forum,eg: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=2131&hilit=dspdesign

Re: Triac will not start up
It may be worth checking the voltage to the computer. I have had to turn up the pot to increase the voltage before. The easiest way to check is on the power plug to the floppy drive. It should read 5volts dc. If it drops below 4.75 then the pc will not power up. There will be a pot on the pc power supply unit which can be adjusted.
It may also be worth pulling the computer out slightly from the rack. You will need to remove the retaining plate & then slide the pc forward & back in to reseat in its socket.
Forget the earlier post about the power up jumpers. I did not realise it had the DSP computer fitted.

Re: Triac will not start up
After much messing I have come to the conclusion that the DSP Design computer board has chomped its last bits, Mach3 here I come.
Thanks for your help.
