Triac Comm Error

Post by teserve » Tue 02 Mar , 2010 21:53 pm

I have a Denford Starmill running the Denford DOS fanuc software. The Starmill is connected to com2 and the desktop tutor connected to com1.

I am about to buy a Denford Triac Serial No 30811D and electrics used Serial No OC000610. I have downloaded the Denford Triac DOS software FANUCMD and this will also power up my Starmill and allow me to jog the axis.

I took the computer to the Triac and connected the Triac to com2 as like the Starmill and powered up the Triac. I then started up the computer and started the Triac software FANUCMD. The software fails to load giving error code error [50] MINT controller disconnected.

It states there is a communication error and tells me to check all the cables etc and to make sure they are in the correct ports.

Finally finishes with error [128] software aborted.

They are in the correct ports although I have also tried swapping them over to the other serial ports to no avail.

Reading the Triac manual downloaded from the forum is says to disable the himem.sys command in the config.sys file as this can cause comms problems. I have now disabled this command but will have to go back to the company were the machine is to try it again. This is about 25 miles away. The contents of the FANUCMD.GO file is as follows.

IBM.RS 1
$2F8 3 MACHINE
DENFORD1.KBD 1
18.2 $3F8 4
VGA.CRT 0
FANUCMD.APP

This all looks OK according to other posts I have read. One thing I don't know is were the comms setting are stored and could it be wrong settings which is preventing the software from starting.

What is error code error [50] MINT controller disconnected.

Regards,
Bob Swindells.

Hardware/Software: Go to User Control Panel > Profile
Enter as much information about your CNC hardware and software as you can - it makes it easier for everyone to know what you're talking about then.

I know you've already checked, but these might help:

Different .GO files for DOS FLSTEP Software

Desk top tutor software on a different number serial port

Can I operate my DOS machine software from a QWERTY keyboard

Denford FANUC Milling and Turning Offline and Desk Top Tutor

How do I change which COM ports my DOS machine software uses

At first I thought the COM ports were set wrong in your go file, but they seem ok. Addr and IRQ must also be ok in the BIOS as they are working on the Starmill ?
COM1 = Address $3F8; IRQ 4 (TUTOR)
COM2 = Address $2F8; IRQ 3 (MACHINE)
COM3 = Address $3E8; IRQ 4
COM4 = Address $2E8; IRQ 3

I suppose the other thing to do, to be certain is to make up a 9-way to 9-way direct connection from PC to Card and take that with you...Just in case it's a problem with the Triac internal cable (or it's different on the starmill):
