TRIAC RS232 cable

Post by jsheets » Thu 25 Jun , 2009 15:25 pm

I am trying to make a cable TRIAC to IBM PC RS232 but I need explanation of what is meant by 8 core screen and what is the screen Pin 5 (9 way D) to 7 (25 way D).
Is the screen the ground wire in a shielded cable?

Thanks,
Jim

Hardware/Software: Go to User Control Panel > Profile
Enter as much information about your CNC hardware and software as you can - it makes it easier for everyone to know what you're talking about then.

If there is a none insulated wire in the cable, that will be connected to the screen / shield and it makes it easier to solder into a connector.
(Rather than stripping back the braiding and trying to roll it up into a thin wire)
The shield can be braided or silver foil - it does the same job.
It may be enough to clamp the D-type metal shell around the shield - if you look at pin 7 on the PCB - it could well be connected via the circuit board, to the D-type connector screws to the metal shell and therefore to the cable shielding anyway
