Hi folks,
Iv been looking for one of these machines for some time now and iv never found one close enough or cheap enough to consider buying it. This has finally changed! Manged to find a old orac on ebay about 10 miles from my house and for £200. Very pleased!
The plan is to convert it to run mach and try to retain all the components i can in the process. From what i have read i can keep the steppers and maybe even the power supply. Im not sure whether it is worth keeping the supply or not but if it will work ill use it. Not sure on what else can be kept to be honest but if there is anything please let me know! dont want to get rid of something useful.
I will most likely be getting my components from zapp automation but i am open to other sources. I have a lot to learn about all of this but its a project and ill learn as i go.
I have managed to power up the unit but i cannot get the machine to work in manual mode, the screen lights up and i can input data but i have to depress the cut off switch to the coordinates screen for manual mode to apear. Surely this isnt right!
also cant figure out how to test the spindle as that wont work either..... but ill keep trying .
