ORAC UPGRADE
I have a 1983 orac I am thinking of upgrading to Mach 3. The only fault it has is I am unable to alter the the spindle speed,
which is down to the PC1690 board.
Are there any kits available?
Any advice on converting to Mach 3, would be welcomed.
Or if anybody knows if someone could do this for me. I am up in North Wales.
Regards
John

Hi Tom,
I saw your post and hoped that you would be able to pass you "ORAC Conversion" knowledge. May I give you a ring to get some details on the modification.
Cheers
Gary

Re: ORAC UPGRADE
Hi ;
recently was hand over an triac mill and a orac lathe seem to be working from what I gather. I'm teaching cnc progamming at the college and I think these machine would work good for doing some of the training in the classroom situation. We teach mostly g and m code for programming language and I would like to be able to run these with a program like Mach or something similar. Is it worthwhile spending any money on these and were I should start. My backgroung is mostly in the manufacturing and not electronics.
Regards
Maurice

Re: ORAC UPGRADE
In my opinion they are worth keeping for the mechanics which are more capable than the electronics which used to control them.
Fit Mach with new stepper motors and drives and you will have some very nice CNC machines.
Nb, other stepper CNC systems are available, LinuxCNC for example

Re: ORAC UPGRADE
Hi, I also have an orac and triac that need an upgrade, currently they are as per their original specification. I would like to convert them and be prepared to replace their existing stepper motors but desperatly need some advice on what component parts to purchase and instructions for setup process. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Graeme.

Re: ORAC UPGRADE
Hi. I did not get the Orac that I was wanting, so I am now on the look out for a small cnc lathe.
