Hi all,
Just a quick one,.. while i am refurbishing my orac, i have powder coated the guards covers and cross slide apron, they have all turned out great.. does anyone know if 200 deg/c for 20 mins would hurt the bedways?? i.e. would it warp them or would be ok if i kept the frame the right way up and heated/cooled it slowly.
any input would be greatly appreciated.
Kindest regards
ian

Re: powder caoting lathe
For what it`s worth I wouldn`t be happy subjecting a casting to the temperatures you are talking about, I have recenly seen some castings that got just a little too hot when being machined (Full flood coolant used) and they "sprung" about 2.5mm over 850mm, is it worth the risk when a proper quality machine enamel would do possibly a better job anyway ? ? ?dorro wrote:Hi all,

I would assume the castings were originally stress relieved and to my mind re-heating them could alter that ? ? ?
Anyone else with more knowledge on casting etc around ? ? ?
Regards
Rob

Hi Rob,
thanks for you reply, i was kinda thinking the same thing, also, because of it's size i think it will be easier to enamel it anyway.
attached are some pics of my progress so far

Re: powder coating lathe
Our mechanical man says that castings should be OK at 200deg ASSUMING they have already been stress relieved.
Stress relieving is around that temperature anyway.
The problem is, we don't know about the Orac castings
I wouldn't want to risk it personally, unless I knew I could machine the ways if anything went wrong !
