NovaMill X-axis Motor grinding noise

Post by boots » Wed 07 Mar , 2007 17:24 pm

The X axis is giving me problems. Y and Z are fine. When homing all the X gets to 0 and then keeps trying to move with a bad sound. The computer continues to count but the machine can not move any further. Seems like a limit switch.

When jogging the x axis the machine does not correctly move with the arrows. When I hit the left arrow, sometimes it goes left. Other times it goes right. When you hold it down sometimes it goes left for a little while then right and so on.

The programs are no longer running correctly with this issue.

Usually if the axes are running the wrong way to the keyboard presses, then it could be a broken or loose wire.

When homing the X axis the motor makes a grinding noise, usally means the the datum switch activation bolt on the X axis carriage is at the wrong side of the datum switch. Try the secret button (See link below) and jog the X axis to the left of the machine and try to re home

Hardware/Software: Go to User Control Panel > Profile
Enter as much information about your CNC hardware and software as you can - it makes it easier for everyone to know what you're talking about then.

I think the stepper drive is faulty, or wiring to the X stepper motor is faulty.

It sounds like it isn't homing properly because its not able to change directions properly

You can rule in or out the wiring by swapping the X and Y motor plugs
