fluctuating speed and feed on novamill

Hi,
my Novamill recently started having power issues where the board seemed to shut itself down. After reading some posts and a bit of testing I think the AC supply was overpowering so that the board was shutting down. Other posts said it was possible to run the board on the 24VDC supply. When I do this it all runs fine however it seems to mess up the physical controls on the front of the machine so that the speed and feed fluctuate until the E stop thinks it has been pressed and then it's all over!
Not sure why this would be but I guess it's not normal? Any help,or info appreciated.
Thanks, Giles
