new nova mill

Hi
I have just purchased a nova mill built 1996 seems to have a usb type thing connected as well as the ols rs232 effort.
I have no software with this (the disc I was sent was blank ) ((no big deal))
I will see if I can upload pics.
realistically I am after a good way of getting this running.
old software would be ok I just want to make bits.
Alternatively I gather conversions are available ?
dose anyone here know how.
as in just the box leave the steppers etc in place??
I am ok with nuts and bolts but electronics not my bag
open to suggestions

It looks like an older Novamill that's had a VRmilling v5 + USB hardware upgrade (normal cost >£1000)
This will be a great setup if you had the software.
A single seat of V5 milling would cost you £250+vat and will get you up and running with the latest control software via USB (no need for RS232 or parallel ports on the PC). This would be much easier and cheaper than a MACH retrofit IMO

I could converted to Mach3 for you for a small fee... :-) if you bring it to me...
Where are you based?

I've done a few Nova, Micromill and TRIACs so far.

Personally, I'd stick with the USB control card - it should be more reliable and useful than a parallel port style Mach upgrade.

VR Milling V5 software and a USB control connection will work on XP to Windows 8 and give you smooth 3D contouring.
The Baldor and Mint programming language is straight forward and would is open to modifications and additions (eg micro stepping / coolant / 4th axis / robot loading)
(The top card has the step and direction header which means you could upgrade to microstepping drives and motors)
The Baldor control card probably has a higher step frequency capability than Mach, as the velocity profiling is done in hardware
