Check that it is a Denstep top card with a version 2.0 or 2.1 eprom fitted.

Make sure the com port is set up as Com 1,2,3,4 or 5.

Right click on the machine link icon in VRMilling & select "serch for machine".

You can also try to connect using Mintman.exe which will be instslled in the VRMilling directory.

Hi there, thanks for the advice!

Well i have a smartstep card with an upgraded erpom 2.1.

In vr milling under RS232 setup i have no option to select which port, the box is blank!

Mintman can't find anything, Find machine does not work.

So maybe there is a problem with my RS232 port.... maybe this is more of a windows problem than Denford..

On the eprom board it display the number 8?

the control box appears to be working as it powers up, i can open the lid, i can hear something in the mill head happening so hopefully there is nothing wrong in there.

Thanks again!!!!!!!!

Check the settings for the USB device in the device manager tab. It should be under ports. If it is set above 5 then click on the advanced tab & change it.

In VRMilling if you go to Setup, then Setup Machine Parameters (password is denny) then communication you can alter the com port to suit.

How are you connecting? Make sure it is a RS232 cable & not pin to pin.

Check your RS232 cable against the drawing.

I'd also check that the COM port is available to windows - look in device manager - is there a COM port listed ?
There may be some software from the PCI serial card manufacturers...it could have created a COM number too high for VRMillling to recognise (COM1 to 8 was usually the max.)
