Novamill Spindle wont turn!!! Please help

Novamill Spindle wont turn!!! Please help

Hello there,

I purchased a Novamill awhile back but due to illness have only just got round to powering it up again, everything seems to work fine, I have it running Denford fanuc milling v2.95 (mint 3.28) under dos and it connects to the machine, allows me to jog all the axes but when I attempt to switch on the spindle, I can hear the cover guard lock clicking but that's all the spindle doesn't turn. It used to turn when I got the machine but I haven't done anything with it.

All the fuses inside the control box seem fine and the SGR relay trips on when I attempt to start the spindle at about 200revs.

The power light is on on the spindle control board.

Any ideas on how to check whether its the spindle motor / spindle control card / or something to do with the guard lock.

Does it turn freely by hand ?
And have you checked the motor brushes ?

Many thanks for your reply,

I have checked the spindle turns freely by hand. i haven't checked the brushes , im not sure how to and I am not sure where to measure that Im getting 240v to the spindle. I've checked fuse1 and the fuse in the spindle board and both seem fine. ( not sure which wires are L and N). I bridged pins 4 and 5 on the spindle drive but this doesn't make any difference.

My thoughts are in the direction of emergency stop button / door guard or spindle brushes /spindle belt however I'm new to these machines and don't want to try anything stupid.

Please help!!!!

Hi there,

Just sorted the problem, when moving the machine, I was somewhat heavy handed in attaching the umbilical cord and succeeded in bending pins 22 and 23, these control the spindle motor, simply a matter of powering down fixing the bent pins and the Novamill is dancing.


Thanks once again to Denford for offering support to a 1996 machine and keeping it running!!!!!!
