SEM Spindle Motor

Post by davemusicmann » Wed 06 Apr , 2016 11:31 am

Thanks to help from Martin I have now got the motor working, however it works well using the armature control setting, but it goes unstable when I connect the tacho output to the controller. I will have to look at this later it won't stop me using the machine.
My next quest is to check the brushes and find out if there is any other maintenance to do.
I am not sure how to remove the brushes, when I unscrew the cap there is a rubber bung inside I did not like to prize this out.
Do the bearings need any form of maintenance?
I would dearly like to get hold of a service data. The manufacturers were not helpful, they claim to have destroyed all the information on the obsolete motors.
Regards,
Dave Mann.

Hi Dave,

Yes the brushes are behind the rubber bungs. When you say it is unstable how much hunting is there? Have you tried adjusting the stability pot on the sprint drive. It would normally be set fully CCW when run in tach mode.
