setting the depth of cut

Post by chrispotts » Mon 14 Mar , 2016 15:15 pm

hi.
I have produced some drawings in solidworks 2011, and get them into VR Milling version 5.
My question is . . .how do i set the Z (depth) so that it will cut the full item? The machine seems to either be waving the cutter high above the surface of the material (I am cutting into 25mm foam) or the I get error messages pop up telling me that "the Z axis move from a to b exceeds machine limit by c" or it cuts only partial depth.
I am rapidly running out of time (and foam sheet) to get this sorted so any advice gratefully received.
cheers,

Chris

Are you running VRMilling version 5 or version 2?

If its's version 5 then click on the blue information icon on the taskbar in the bottom left. It should show you a image of the billet & where it is out. I presume you do not have enough Z stoke to get to Z-25. In which case you can drop the spindle motor assembly down to allow you to get lower or stick the tool out slightly further. The head has 3 positions it can be fastened in. If you remove the spindle motor you can undo the 2 bolts & select a lower key way.

Thank you so much.
A simple fix that I hadn't even thought of :D .

If only OFSTED was as easy to sort :delirious:
