Spindle encoder fault

Hi,
Looking for some advice on a Cyclone with Fanuc 21i control.
I have no RPM reading on the screen display.
The spindle will run at different speeds and the override works but the screen says 0rpm.
Been using the lathe in feed per minute mode instead, but have a load of screw cutting jobs coming up so need to get it sorted.
Does anyone have any tests I could try before buying a new encoder?

Do you have an oscilloscope, or multimeter with a frequency (Hz) display?
First check is obviously the basics, in checking there is power/gnd going to the encoder.
You can also try measuring the encoder output voltage, and moving/stopping the spindle in random locations to see if the output changes.

Oscilloscope would give you a definitive answer.
Hz display on a multimeter would let you know there is a switching output, but not all multimeters have a frequency measurement.

The spindle encoder on my Cyclone died when I had it, and for simplicity I ordered a replacement encoder from British Encoder ( https://encoder.co.uk/ who were the original supplier for mine).
They were really helpful, even supplying an encoder with all signals wired up, and with the original wiring colours.

Opened up the encoder plug and it was full of coolant, looks like the seal broke down over time.
Cleaned it out, resoldered and now good as new. Thanks
