Haviing suffered a main power glitch, my Cyclone alarmed out, as did 3 Bridgeport mills.
After turning off, and then back on, and then homing the machine, the Cyclone Fanuc showed a 504 overtravel alarm on the X Axis. Puzzled by this, I removed the cover to check the operation of the micro switches on the slide. It was found that a screw holding a wire to the datum microswitch had physically fallen out. Replaced it and expected all to be working, but it still says overtravel alarm when you home the machine. I suspect the microswitch is faulty, but having read this article
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2444&p=8832
I wonder if this is my problem. If not, can I still buy identical microswitches ?
Secondly, The Cyclone really does not like parting off, used Glanze and Seco holders and tips, but it shudders and vibrates badly on small diameter and 22mm freecutting steel. All the usual speed and feed combinations have been tried, as has checking tool on centre and tight. Any ideas, or am I expecting too much?

To answer my own question, it is looking like the P CAN process has worked. Machine has homed and overtravel error gone, so far.
I guess the loose wire on the datum microswitch was enough to not allow this to work first time round.

It might be worth also checking everything is bolted down tightly and Gib strips are setup.Secondly, The Cyclone really does not like parting off, used Glanze and Seco holders and tips, but it shudders and vibrates badly on small diameter and 22mm freecutting steel. If you have a Dial Test Indicator, see if you have any lift on the X axis saddle or turret
