Cyclone alarm 1008

Post by jaycnc » Wed 16 Sep , 2009 22:26 pm

After getting the above alarm the other day and the lathe going down im please to annouce im runnign again and a big thanks to Lone Ranger (Rob) for reminding me to look at other things where fanucs concerened as it can be something silly and not as serious as the alarm code makes out.
The problem started after i fired the machine up after comming back of holiday.
After about 30 seconds of running at 2000rpm a whining noise started and got louder and louder and then the chuck seemed to start trying to apply a break and then the spindle stalled and alarm 1008 spindle drive fault came up.
After resetting and trying it again all went well and the the same happened again.
I checked everything i could think of electrically wise and also the belts but i could work it out.
It crossed my mind that something was getting hot and expanding which was slowing the spindle but i could only think about the bearings at the time but their sealed.
After discussing this with my father (hes a sparki) he came to the same conclusion and said at the time it may be a lubrication problem to which i replied about the sealed bearings.
Yesterday we decided to have another go at the problem together and fired it up and sure enough we got the problem again.
Wjile my father was looking at the automatic slideway oiler it suddenley dawned on me about the tufnol pads in the air chuck which the hit me like a lightening bolt that i bet they have run dry and the oiler has packed in.
After checking the power to the oiler and everything being ok with that and the workings of it i decided just to drop some oil in the chuck by hand in a syringe and hay presto the problem went away. :D :D :D
After tracing the line back it turned out to be the non return valve in the cabinet that had stuck shut
