Turret rotation problems

Post by H12UAJ » Tue 25 May , 2010 12:50 pm

hi can anyone help.
I am having problems indexing the turret. Its a baruffaldi TOE 80 model. I am able to index the turret a maximum of 3 tool posts maximum using the tool idex selector. If I try and move it from tool post 7 to tool post 2 for example then I hear a whiney noise but the turret will not rotate. Also if I try and select a tool using MDI then nothing happens.

Where do I start. Thanks in advance for any help

Andrew

Does the turret index a full revolution is you call up each tool in turn?

Or are there some positions you can get to and others that do not work.

Have you looked in the electrical panel to see how the turret is wired? On some turrets there is a control card with LED indicators.

The only service centre I know of is Brackley Engineering Services though we have not worked with them for several years..

Hardware/Software: Go to User Control Panel > Profile
Enter as much information about your CNC hardware and software as you can - it makes it easier for everyone to know what you're talking about then.

It sounds like something has gone wrong with the reverse toolpost output / relay
ie, it can rotate forward (station 1 to 3) but it goes wrong when it decides to go in reverse to save time (station 3 to 1) ?

There may be something mechanically wrong as well...I don't know how it works exactly, but they are very particular about the unlocking, rotating and locking up sequence and are very easy to get into an unlocked state when something isn't quite right.

First of all I'd be checking that it is a symptom of a reverse command by watching the relays in the cabinet when asking for 1>3 then 3<1

It will only rotate forward so i will check the relays. My only concern is that i have no manual for the schematics so i am not entirely sure where to look or what to look for.

When you are trying to go in reverse you say
I hear a whiney noise but the turret will not rotate
.

This would indicate that the reverse relay is operating but there may be a phase to the motor that is missing or that the turret physically cannot turn.

I would make a visual check of the turret wiring.

Do you use coolant?
It may be worth rewmoving the end cover & checking for any liquid around the encoder.
