Small Internal Bores
Is there any way to get the CAM to make a bore smaller than 10mm? The software won't bore as it comes up saying its smaller than 10mm.
I've programmed the Micro Boring Bar info into the tool library and managed something that looks approximately correct. The tool is 3.5mm Dia at the cutting tip (.1 radius tip) with a long shank so plenty of clearance. The bore is 10.5mm (10mm drilled hole) stepping down to 6.4mm (6mm drilled hole), with a .5mm radius on the corners.
I want to do a lot of smaller bores on smaller parts with the 270pro but if this is going to be an ongoing issue I might have to go to Solidworks for the CAD/CAM (trying to avoid this currently as there is a lot of setup of the CAM for this option).

Re: Small Internal Bores
Can you double check the values you have entered for the tool or you can post them on here.
I have just trailed this myself and I am able to simulate the boring of a 6mm to 3mm tapered hole. this is using a 1mm boring bar as an example.

Re: Small Internal Bores
This is the data I used for the tool. Can’t take a picture of the data on the PC as it’s down awaiting a new GPU tomorrow.

Re: Small Internal Bores
ok no problem. I entered the data from the tool into QuickTurn2D, as you stated it cannot go down into the smaller bores.
What I did was reduce the value of f to 1 (WF on your datasheet). Theoretically this should just reduce the size of the cutting face. This change does allow the tool to now bore down to 5mm.
I would also reduce the cut depth in the materials library to 0.3mm (currently 0.4 and 0.5mm Fine / Rough).
Watch the machine very carefully on the first cut to ensure it doesn't do something unexpected though.

Re: Small Internal Bores
That’s great, thanks. New GPU is here now so I just need to set up everything and hopefully I’ll get to try it over the next day or two.
Re: Small Internal Bores
Just worked out that even though it was disabled the CAM was trying to use the original 8mm boring bar so that tool data was deleted and now its using the carbide boring bar. I also made the changes you did and it has managed a successful simulation.
Only one issue, the drill drills past the bottom of the counterbore so it ends up with a tapered bore from 10.5mm down to 6.4mm. It wants to make the counterbore full width of the drill right to the bottom. I can fix this in the program later but was wondering if there is a reason for this that I've overlooked?
Also the boring bar now only operates as a rough boring tool even with it set as a finishing tool only Not a major problem in aluminium but might cause issues in other materials later down the line.
Another question that's been bugging me, is there a way to get a radius between a bore and an external face?

Re: Small Internal Bores
so for this, I would disable the 10mm drill bit within QuickTurn 2D and let the boring bar take out the material up to the 10.5mm.
to get a radius between the external face and the bore, when you change to internal mode start with a curve and create your own radius, you can edit the values after, but what you cannot do is add a radius after a straight line has been drawn.

Re: Small Internal Bores
I ended up editing the program after to make the 10mm only go in to the depth of the point instead of the diameter.
In aluminium disabling the 10mm would be fine but in Stainless or Titainium it would have to do a lot of passes and probably wear the tool out quite quickly. Thanks for all your help so far, more may be needed in the future
