Virtual Wind Tunnel

Customer using AutoDesk Inventor 11 to create F1 Model and having trouble with the STL files coming into Virtual Wind Tunnel v. III either sideways or backwards.

Solution per CHAM (vendor for Virtual Wind Tunnel):
The F1 VWT was originally set up to accept CAD data from ProDesktop, and we used the default alignment from that product. Of course, STL files can be created and exported by a variety of products, and in any alignment, which is why customers may have encountered their particular problem.

We recommend users to ensure that all STL files get generated and exported from their preferred CAD package using an alignment that the F1 VWT wants to receive!

If the STL file does get imported sideways or backwards, the user can simply click on the object and rotate it into the correct position using the two middle arrow buttons at the top of the handset.

CHAM expects a solution for this problem in a future VWT software update.

Virtual Wind Tunnel v 4

CHAM has found a resolution for this in their latest version of software. Please see their response and attachment.

From CHAM - We're finding that some people are having trouble importing the geometry in the correct orientation (our default is the PTC ProDesk original, but since different CAD packages are now used, the problems increase). So, in that event, please draw their attention to the attached section (and anyone else for that matter).

An alternative to changing the orientation in CHAM would be to reorientate the model in the CAD package. :?

To do this open a new design.

Create a solid base.

Import the Co2 car and assemble to the base. Rotate to the apropriate angle that will import to CHAM.

Once in the correct orientation delete or suppress the base feature leaving just the car in the correct orientation then save the STL.
