1. If the material is located on the bed of the machine where it is physically impossible for the moves in the program to be reached. Reposition the work piece and reset the offsets
2. Spurious moves, if he as created the program via a CAD and CAM package he may have left in a line etc that should not be there and thus causes a spurious movement when run through the CAM package
3. Can the tool in the Z axis reach the maximum depth that is required in the program? If not use sacrificial material on the bed to raise the material to be cut or drop the cutter lower down in the collet
4. The VR Milling software reads a number of lines ahead in the program, hence the line it stops on may not be the one causing the problem, tell him to read a few lines ahead and see if he can spot the problem

Also, if you are using Version 5 milling then use the INFO button

to check for out of limit errors. This quickly previews the CNC program, and where it will appear in the machines travel with the currently active machine datum position.

If your design is in Metric Units ensure you have METRIC units selected and not IMPERIAL units. Icon in the bottom left hand side of the VR Milling Ver 5 window
[Admin Note]
This is because you could get confused when entering offset values, if you don't realise you are in Inch mode, even though the program is in metric
Move exceeds limits!!!!

The simulation runs without a hitch.
The work is positioned in the centre of the bed.
I have managed to run one successful output through the machine.
However, now it gets so far through and freezes!!
I've tried all sorts of things but "frustrating" is an understatement!
Anyone got any ideas?

Can you tell us what version of software and machine you are on ?
Freezing has happened randomly at various times in the past.
Combinations of PC hardware and OS, control hardware, firmware, software and cabling issues have all caused "freezing" due to communications being corrupted.
These things never (

) happen with the current control firmware, VR software and correct cabling

Currently using VR CNC Milling Version 5.17
The machine (2600) is less than a year old.

When you say simulation, do you mean the 2D/3D simulation, or the blue quick info button (mentioned above) ? Use the quick info button to see if the program can run with the current machine offsets.
If you have been getting an exceeds limit message, then that is what the problem is.
If the machine is just stopping for no reason, then it must be a communication / interference problem
If its not too much hassle, its worth updating to the latest vr milling as well:
