Z Motor stalling on RouterNS

Steve, It is a RouterNS and has a Denstep board, I can see no evidence of brakes anywhere, Martin. Have disconnected the coupling and tried running the stepper motor, which hums without turning. How do I identify which stepper motor drivers to swap axes there don't seem to be three identical plugs. Cheers

Martin,
The two motors in the top right of the card are the Y and X (X at the end)
The one at the bottom of the card is the Z.
Some machines may be different but I think this is correct.
The Plugs also have black pegs fitted to prevent positioning in the wrong place, you may need to pop these out to allow you to switch over the plugs.
Make sure the power is off when you disconnect the plugs. Yo do not have to plug all the motors in to run the card so you could try disconnecting one at a time to confirm which is which.
You say the card is a Router NS (this is a Nextmove card not a Denstep, you can see this from the green 7 segment display).
Is it possible that the motor could have been disconnected and rewired?
If you have a meter check the winding resistance of the motors. The 4 wires of each motor are paired up the pairs are next to each other.
You should get a reading of a few ohms across each pair. I suggest you measure all 3 motor windings as if there was a brake in the connection it would show up. The motor lead on the Z motor is extended and it could be a bad joint in the cable.

If the motor hums without turning, its probably running too fast without any load - try jogging it slower before coming to any conclusions.

Many thanks for your help, Steve, have swopped motor board connectors and the stepper motor runs sweetly, I presume it is the board. By the way it follows the configuration of the board in your picture but has a red 7 seg display!? Can you tell me how to get the board repaired. Many thanks, Martin Field

I take it that the motor runs perfectly as another axis when still connected to the slide as well ?
