Triac-Fanuc ATC Problem - Rigid tapping

Hi guys,
Can anyone help, I'm trying to rigid tap M8x1.25 on the above machine all seems ok when cutting fresh air, as soon as I try to tap the steel component the machine spindle stops turning and pushes the tap up inside its ER32 collet until it reverses.

Program:
Speed is S100 M03
Feed is G94
Canned Tapping Cycle is G91 G99 G84 Z-10 R2 P0 F125;

I have tried using a 7.5mm tapping drill and it still stalls the machine, is seems there is a miss match between speed and feed, Feed G95 will not work with this machine either.
Am I missing a trick or doing something wrong  any help would be much appreciated.

Regards bid

Can you give some details or photos of the spindle drive and motor ?
I suspect that if it's the cheaper option and not a Fanuc drive+motor, then it might not have the torque at such low speeds :?

I was under the impression that they couldn't tap full stop never mind ridgid tapping.
There is now power behind that spindle at 100rpm try a lot faster, 500 or if you're bold 800

I didn't think there was an encoder feedback on the spindle - well mind hasn't got one!

I'll be interested to know how you get on....

I think the Serial No of the Triac Fanuc is HO1164

Spindle drive is Sprint 1600i

Hi,

Checked the spindle motor it has SEM on the side name plate the stall torque on the plate is 4.5NM, difficult to see anything else due to its position.
If this is the problem is there a retro-fit up grade, and what will it cost?

Ok that's what I thought it was going to be - at low speeds you can probably stop that spindle with your bare hands.
You could try a faster speed like triac whizz suggested.

We have upgraded the VMC1300's (newer versions of the Triac) with a 6000 RPM Baldor servo drive+motor, for some industrial customers - hopefully someone here could give you a rough price...
