Has anyone upgrade to VR Milling Ver 5 which has USB connectivity on a TRIAC PC ATC. It has a EUROSTEP Iss 4 card in it which I confirmed on this site (Bradders) that it could be converted. We are a high school in New Jersey USA that has limited resources (especially now) and would like to have our tech guys install it. Is it beyond their capabilities?

Hi there,
Basically its just a matter of swapping the old Eurostep card for the new USB card, drilling a 27mm Dia hole in the Electrical Cabinet to accept the USB bulk head fitting, connecting internal and external USB cable and installing the new VR Milling Ver 5 software.
You may have to change some of the setting in the software so it knows there is a ATC etc. Also for the upgrade to work the machine must be in 100% working order prior to the upgrade, this may seem obvious but we have had customers purchase the upgrade and when its does not work they will say that the machine was not working in the first place
I take it you have a stand alone PC controlling the Triac? This will need to be at least XP for the VR Millimg 5 software to work effectively
I will copy a link to this post for our sister company in the US

Thanks so much for the info. Our Triac is in great working condition. It has very few hours on it and has been only used by me. I do have one concern, and that is the ATC. Once I install the VR5 card/board will I or my tech guys be able to program the settings for it with possible assistance from this forum?

Hopefully Martin can advise here as well - I'm sure there are other things to alter. I'm sure some Triac upgrades need something doing with the 12V supply to the override pots.

Do you still think we can do the install on our own with some outside guidance?

Anything is possible depending on your tech guy, - its a bit like me asking you whether I could teach one of your classes ! Who knows ? (I probably couldn't by the way)
