TDS1/GB Tranposing Set-up - Met/Eng and Eng/Met

Here are the drawings for the thread-cutting transposing set-up on the 5" TDS Gearbox lathes.

I believe they apply to both Mk1 (angled headstock casting) and Mk2 (square headstock casting) versions. If anyone knows different, please post here.

The 5.5" lathes (280VS, 280 Synchro, etc) use a totally different quadrant but most of the gears, spacers, etc were carried over from the 5".

First up is the arrangement drawing.

Stud Gears

There are 4 stud gears needed to get the full range of English threads - 48T, 49T, 52T & 54T.

Drawings here are for the 48, 52 and 54 tooth gears (49T to come later)

Still to come......

To complete the set-up, the following drawings will be needed.
I'll scan them in when I can, unless Admin can do them sooner from the originals:

ML114/3 - Quadrant Intermediate Stud
Ml115/4 - Spacer
ML114/9 - 135/127T Compound gear

Quadrants are about as rare as rocking horse droppings!
But there was one on ebay yesterday (not sure when it ends)

Sorry - we've no patterns left from those days. Any spares like that were sold of in a job lot a few years ago (possibly to the guy on ebay ?!)
What kind of money are you talking ?
As getting new castings would be very expensive, wouldn't a bit of fabrication and milling do the trick ?

Well i was think when i am back at work next week getting it burnt out on profile burner! then milling it down or make the step and fixing it on by pins or weld it then mill/turn it to shape ? but i need a full scale drawing photo copy so i can give it to the burner then he can do it! As i am sh#t at drawing! and a little printer at home! how much off you admin/denford ? and for a casting it will be better to have one but its all about cash how much do you think it will cost ? + will denford not get some bits and bobs cast off the old tds? its more money for you's!! thanks graham

The problem lies with the investment in new patterns - its just too much unless you can guarantee being able to sell enough to make the costs back. Shame though - if the patterns did still exist, they'd only cost a few quid each before machining !
I wonder if some CAD whizz on this forum would be willing to sketch the quadrant up for you ?

I reckon there is a still good market in the Viceroy brand products and we sometimes discuss the idea of resurrecting them. We just don't know anything about the market though - most people seem to be picking up machines as scrap and getting them to work again so I'm not sure who'd want to buy a new one ?

one hopes

well if he can then some money will be on its way to him? If denford starts making old parts i don't see them having problems selling them at all! saves allot of ring up emails begging! If i new denford had the parts i needed i will buy them now and its good to no that you have them just in case. who am i going to buy from denford or some ones copy of it? ask people what they need want or may need run a poll on hear? if boxford/myford can do it you can. Have a good look at it. Even if you get them cast in the east? but its got to be done right then most will be ok with that. I no some say the east is crap but the casting is ok. just they have got no good fitters. I will not have a lathe/mill off them but for parts thats fine with me

N.B. The normal end-drive gears on a gearbox lathe are 16DP.
Conversion gears are 18DP, which is the same as the gear train on non-gearbox models.
