StarMill Upgrade / Retrofit

Post by paragon » Wed 08 Oct , 2008 14:14 pm

Some quick and dirty pictures Of my Starmill upgrade. (It's still a work in progress)

Rapids are running at 1800mm per minute which is limited by the number of step / dir pulses that can be sent via the para port.
System = EMC2 running under Ubuntu Linux with RTAI Kernel (Realltime Kernel) It's all open source BTW

I am going to experiment with the pluto-p fpga board connected to the para port with EMC2 this supports 4 - Axis Servo / Encoder (PWM) or 4-axis Stepper (Step / Dir) The motor speed will then be much faster and smoother due to the increased pulses that can be achieved.
Please ignore the mess :D

Cheers,
SRG

Hardware/Software: Go to User Control Panel > Profile
Enter as much information about your CNC hardware and software as you can - it makes it easier for everyone to know what you're talking about then.

Hope you don't mind, but I've moved this to User Stories/Projects - you could keep adding to this thread then as you progress...and it won't get lost among all the general machine questions.
