Re: Starmill Spindle Runout?

Martin,

Nothing on the back but there is a label inside 'North East Electronics' Serial Number= 014 and Date = 8/88. The table has the number 451 stamped on the front right hand under the cover that hides the X limit switch.

Kind Regards,
Steve

Re: Starmill Spindle Runout?

Hello Martin thanks for your reply. I am measuring the inside of the R8 spindle with a DTI. Not sure what the serial number is... I am not at the machine at the moment but from memory I think I noticed a number on the table would this be it? The machine is circa 1988 if that helps. Thanks Again Steve

Starmill Spindle Runout?

Hello All,

I measure the runout of my Starmill R8 Spindle with a DTI and am seeing about 0.015mm of runout.
What was the factory tolerance for this spindle from new?
Is this runnout acceptable (how longs a piece of string)?

Kind Regards,
Steve

Re: PNC3 Starturn / SMCU Starmill Bipolar/Unipolar

Hello All, I mistakenly thought the LCB3 was using unipolar but on closer inspection it is indeed using bipolar. I didn't notice the motor four wire connections (red, orange, black, yellow) at the top of the LCB3 card for the X and Y axis's. I have also since noticed the stepper driver heat-sink locate...

Re: SMCU Starmill Stepper Board Pinout? (Dir / Step and motor)

Thanks for the link! It has helped with regards to main motor out pinout but unfortunately it doesn't mention anything about the step/dir pinouts which I believe are delivered through the connector X11!? It appears this is an older version than the mill I have as it only mentions the number keypad w...

PNC3 Starturn / SMCU Starmill Bipolar/Unipolar

Am I correct in assuming that the PNC3 Starturn steppers are Unipolar (8-lead) ULN2803A driven where as the Starmill SMCU are Biplolar (L297)? If so what was the reason(s) for Denford to go the unipolar route rather than bipolar on the Starturn? I was under the impression that Bipolar is more desira...

Hello All, Does anyone know of any circuit pinouts for the SMUC Driver connections? This is on an old starmill it has 3 X L297 based Parker Digiplan Drivers that connect to a mother board that has screw terminals for motor connection and an IDC connector for step dir. Re: Is the [Billet X Z directive only used for Simulation?

Thanks your reply Admin. It makes sense ofsetting from the chuck as you sugest I will give this ago. I followed the tool setting intructions found in the Denford documentation which states to use the end and side of the billet to set offsets. I have attached an OCR scanned pdf of the procedure in ca...

Is the [Billet X Z directive only used for Simulation?

Hello All, Is the [BILLET X Z used for Fanuc simulation only or does it also have an effect on live turning? When using ATC do the tool offsets only need to be entered once? For example if I have a different length and widths of stock will the system calculate the end of stock and centre line zero o...

Re: Setting Workpeice / Billet Datum point?

Ok I've found the answer....

The gcode output from the cam programme issued a G50 X0 Y0 which home's the datum to the last moved point.

G0 X0 Z0 (moves to end of billet centre line)
G0 X40 Z10 ( move to new position )
G50 X0 Z0 (Sets datum of last moved position to X0 Y0)

Cheers

Setting Workpeice / Billet Datum point?

Hello,

How does one set the workpiece datum point x0 y0 to be at the end and at the center line of the Billet on Starturn FanucL (training) program.
X0,Y0 is currently referenced from the machine datum top left on simulation.

Kind Regards,
SRG

Some quick and dirty pictures Of my Starmill upgrade.
