PCB engraver nextmove programming

I was wondering if the PCB engraver nextmove card should be programmed with a machine type and the machine serial number?
EasyUpgrader2 states it's special and no serial number set.
Is a Denford expert able to confirm what if anything should be programmed into the card NVRAM?

Many thanks,
GIllian

Re: Microrouter v3 with undocumented modifications.

FYI - If anyone has blown a stepper driver, it might be prudent to replace the companion L297 as well as it's often damaged as the L298 goes up in smoke. In my case, the control pins seemed high impedance compared with a working one and others were much lower. Once it was removed, I put it under a m...

Re: Microrouter v3 with undocumented modifications.

My spare bits finally arrived so I spent an hour today soldering in the new L298 driver, a new diode, a fresh bridge rectifier and a socket to take the new L297 stepper sequencer. Ran a brush and IPA over the soldering to clean off the flux. As I'd cleaned off all the old stuff, applied a thin film ...

Re: Microrouter v3 with undocumented modifications.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Interesting. Mine is definitely the V3 with separate control cabinet shown below: IMG_20240309_125325.jpg I've pulled the wiring diagram from the door and compared and it's definitely a 13-2-2001 style of machine that seems to have been upgraded to a 9-11-2001 that includes...

What's driving your Z-axis?

Hi, I'm trying to get a handle on what stepper motors have been fitted to drive the Z-axis on the various versions of the Microrouter. I have a May 2001 Microrouter 3 with Sn H01165/1 which has an MAE HS200-2221-0300 3A hybrid motor and the usual Sanyo Denki 2A Step syn ones on X and Y. It's got the...

Re: Microrouter v3 with undocumented modifications.

As a follow up, The catch diode that went short circuit was one that protected from negative going back EMF by shunting it to ground. Yes, grounding an out out on the L298 would definitely let the smoke out. So would a zombie L297  I've checked out the stepper wiring in the cabinet and nothing ...

Microrouter v3 with undocumented modifications.

I'm trying to get a microrouter V3 up and running and having a spot of bother. The machine was built in May 2001 but has obviously been upgraded to the USB nextmove, and the "door drawings" have an updated set of 3A steppers, vacuum pump and Sprint 1200. How can I tell the difference between the Spr...

Congratulations on 80 years!! Happy Birthday!

I just wanted to wish everyone well on Denford's 80th Birthday and to thank you for making such lovely machines.
I had a feeling there was something special about March 13th - now I know :D

Re: Circuit Diagrams

In getting it going, I found the IDC connector was not making good contact and the machine could not home the Z axis so would never complete the homing sequence. A new connector on the old cable and a little IPA on the pins worked wonders. Once the z-axis stepper driver received a good step signal, ...

Circuit Diagrams

Does anyone happen to have the circuit diagrams or electrical drawings for the control gear in the back of the cabinet on a June 2014 PCB Engraver? It has a nextmove with USB, a z-axis driver, a chunky toroidal transformer and the custom Denford relay/power supply PCB. (See below) Many Thanks, Gillian

Sealant used on electrical conduit

I've had the wiring loom out on my novamill and was wondering if anyone knew what type of sealant was used round the white plastic conduit inside the milling cabinet? Is it natural cure silicone, acrylic or something else?

Many thanks,
Gillian

Re: Issue with old Novamill and VR Milling 5

I tried a "laplink" cable from laptop to baldor controller and it didn't help. I refitted the original bulkhead DB25 and connected my FTDI based USB to serial controller back on. It still refused to communicate so I looked a the advanced settings for the COM4 port and changed RX and TX bytes to the ...

Re: Issue with old Novamill and VR Milling 5

I till try the direct link and bypass the existing wiring. I will grab my box of serial patch cables and have fun at the weekend.

Thanks for the pointer to the post on the wiring.

Issue with old Novamill and VR Milling 5

I have a Novamill with ATC dating from 1997. The controller shipped with the standard DOS software but was subsequently upgraded to the VR Milling 2.1 ROM. The controller is the Original SmartStep/3 and serial only controller. I borrowed my Microrouter compact laptop and VR Milling 5 setup to try to...
