Re: Viceroy screwcutting lathe TDS1/1 PCS Headstock bearings
I think the numbers above are slightly incorrect: 19150/1926B should read 19150/1926 8 LM676048/67010B should read LM67604 B /LM67010B According to this reference sheet , if both cup and cone have the 'B' suffix they are not flanged but have a steeper included angle compared to the basic number. An...

Re: Motor and VFD
Hi, Ignore what I said about drilling holes etc !, I didn't notice that you said the shaft was free in the castings. I think you may have to remove the castings from their attachment under the lathe bed. The shaft may be shouldered, with circlips to locate the bearings onto the shaft or pulley. Les...

Re: New To Me TDS 1 (LS)
Thought I would post a few pics of my countershaft arrangement as it isn't like the one that has adjustment for belt tension. (As per plan pic) I took it out as I had convinced myself there must be some form of adjustment I just can't see it. Anyway there isn't. The cast brackets are bolted through...

Does anybody have a drawing of ML100/403A ? I have looked a few times through the lists of drawings but not come across anything with full detail of it. This is for the Viceroy Screwcutting lathe.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: New To Me TDS 1 (LS)
This lathe is missing the grease nipples from either end of headstock. Concerned that bearings might be bone dry but it appears someone has managed to lube them in some way. Not 100% sure but is that smaller port the outlet for the grease nipple IE: are they connected ? I presume the nipple is a dri...

Re: New To Me TDS 1 (LS)
You seem very keen to do this modification, but why? Because it makes it easier to thread belts? You've threaded the belt now, so it will probably renewing in about 20 years? So you can see the spindle? Why do you need to see the spindle? All I can say is that if I was looking to buy a lathe, I'd w...

Re: New To Me TDS 1 (LS)
I cannot see any harm coming from that, though I don't know why you would want to. I saw this pic on lathes.co.uk which does not have the casting rib blocking access/ restricting view of spindle. The model without that rib looks like the plain turning spec and obviously with the screwcutting model ...

Re: New To Me TDS 1 (LS)
My own opinion is don't cut a hatch in the top. Denford made the box headstock for rigidity, so don't alter it, unless you are happy with a lathe that might not perform as well as its makers intended. Thanks for your opinion RP. It wasn't just going to be a hatch as such, I was planning on adding i...

Re: New To Me TDS 1 (LS)
The nutlink belt in the pic is perfectly good to replace like for like. To make threading it round easy get some string and stick it onto the pulley with a dab of grease then it will carry the end round where you can grab it. Tie the string to the new belt and pull it round. It's fiddly but it is d...

New To Me TDS 1 (LS)
Hi All ....First visit here hello and go easy on me, I may ask some dumb questions, coz I'm really new to the world of lathes. Just acquired a Viceroy and first issue is there is no final drive belt. I have taken the backplate off the headstock and it looks like it will be a swine to thread a new on...
