Re: Switches
I removed the way cover to get a better look. Attached is what I was asking about. It appears there's a proximity switch on X and a roller contact switch on Z. So why is it like that? I'm assuming the proximity for safety reasons, but why use a contact switch that's subject to bounce and arcing issu...
Switches
Silly question but does the Mirac use a mix of proximity and contact switches for home and limit? My X home looks like a proximity and my Z limit feels like a contact switch. I'm just looking and feeling around for what I can without tearing the machine apart.

Re: Yep, another machine can't connect
I can appreciate the over design, but don't like it. I never have. The redundancy just makes it harder to troubleshoot and usually just provides 2 or more faults. The reason I got a Denford was price. It was an online auction fairly close to me with almost no run time. For the price I payed I took a...

Re: Yep, another machine can't connect
Well I messed with it a lil' bit more and gave up on it. The DOS stuff just isn't user friendly and if/when I sell it that would hurt resale. I've removed the controller board and drivers board and started replacing them with a Centroid Acorn motion controller, something I should have done as soon a...

Re: Dummies guide
Thank you for the links, that gives me a lot to sift through during the Holidays. I wish there was a way to just skip the whole Dos end of this without swapping out the control board and drives to modern era items.

Dummies guide
I'm looking for more info about running Dos software on my Mirac, I was trying to run VRturn to no avail when it was suggested I try Dos software to see if it will at least connect. I've download DosBox to run on my Win8.1 machine and have messed with it enough to get it working pretty easily. I ass...

Re: Yep, another machine can't connect
I messed with dosbox a little bit when I first got it. I quickly remembered how lazy I've become. It did come with a tutor keypad. Sadly I only have 1 serial port on the PC I'm using for the lathe. I had Win10 on the PC but wiped it and tried most of the day to put win98 on it with no success. I tri...

Re: Yep, another machine can't connect
I saw the post with a pin out you linked to. I've verified my cable is the same. It's a f-f null modem cable for future reference. I've tried using the machine upgrader but it needs to connect to the PC to use, same with the link configure software that comes with VRturn. I tried to use the sniffer ...

Re: Yep, another machine can't connect
The eprom was a concern, but it's not giving an error code just a L or a 7 with a small flashing led.
Yes I have a licensed copy of VRturn. I'm very new to it, but everything seems to work as it should, I'm just not sure what the comm settings should be.

Does anyone else have suggestions or can confirm my machine is indeed VRturn compatible?

Re: Yep, another machine can't connect
My eprom didn't have a label attached, it was removed at some point by the previous owner, a tech school. Is there another way to get the version number? When I inquired about using VRturn vs older software I was told by the US retailer for my area that my machine was compatible with VRturn. Attache...

Yep, another machine can't connect
Would anyone mind sharing their connection settings in VRturn? What's the difference between the 2 Miracs listed in machine parameters? My control card has the red L/7. I'm using a DB9-DB9 null modem cable connected straight, but have also tried a DB9-DB25 connected to the outside of the control box...

Re: Response time
I haven't tried to get it running under Dos. I downloaded an emulator and the dos turning program to check it out. It's simply not user friendly, too many years of using Windows based programs.

Re: Response time
It did come with a Tutor keyboard, so It may be a Dos machine. I downloaded Dosbox and played with it a bit today. I'd forgot what a pain Dos was. I've all but made my mind up to use Centoid Acorn and do a conversion with modern stepper drives. A license of VR turn is more expensive than a their mot...

Re: Response time
I have considered it's a dos machine. That presents another problem. I haven't seen a Win 98 computer in a very long time and I'm not sure a dos emulator would work.

Re: Response time
I'm still waiting on a response from my Denford US distributor about the price on a license for VR turn after more than a week, seems like it would have been a quick reply. Could anyone give me an approx. cost on a license? I'm not 100% sure the electronics will function as they should since there d...
