Denford Cyclone for sale
I have a non working Cyclone lathe for sale. I bought it as a Mach 3 conversion project but time has got in the way. Its the version with the tailstock and Denford operating system and has been un-used for years after something went wrong (I don't know what) with the electrics. Its been taken off it...

Easimill stepper wires
I've got to the stage in my build where I am connecting the stepper motors to the new drivers I have bought. The manual for the Leadshine stepper drivers asks for wires labled A+, A-, B+ and B-, while the Easimill drawing number A3-200014 shows the wires labled as 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B with wire colours...

Re: 1984 Easymill spindle motor, 440 volts only or dual volt
Thanks to all for your replies. I put this project down for a bit as I've been trying to get hold of a small lathe (manual) for my shed and having got one I've been setting it up (Its quicker for me to get the lathe up and running than the Easimill with my knowledge). I got a 2hp dual voltage 3 phas...

Re: 1984 Easymill spindle motor, 440 volts only or dual volt
Thanks very much for your help with this, I appreciate your knowledge and input. It looks like I'm forced down the route you suggest, I'll go through the info you've supplied later when I get home and we'll see what Vandal says when he's had chance to have a look at his motor. I rather suspect that ...

Re: Can I use an inverter with my easymill 3?
Thanks Vandal. I've noticed the time of your post, do you work nights or are you based somewhere west of the UK? I'm thinking that if your in the States your supply voltage may be different to ours so the inrternals of motor might be different to suit that voltage. If I understand correctly, 3 phase...

Re: 1984 Easymill spindle motor, 440 volts only or dual volt
So am I right with the following? A) The motor will run 1430 rpm when connected to 440 volts in star. B) It will run at 710 rpm when connected to 440 volts in delta. C) It won't run usefully, if at all from 220 volts when connected in either star or delta through a VFD. If I'm right with C) what can...

Re: Can I use an inverter with my easymill 3?
Hey Vandal, thanks for your post. You say your machine is the same and you run the spindle motor through an inverter. Is your spindle motor the same as the one in the pictures? I'm trying to work out if the motor on my machine is dual voltage so I can run it from an inverter like yourself. The name ...

Re: 1984 Easymill spindle motor, 440 volts only or dual volt
No, there is no inverter. The machine is belt driven, 3 phase 440 volts to the spindle and coolant motors with 24 volts to the cnc box. When I saw the machine running before I bought it it was running from a 3 phase supply.

1984 Easymill spindle motor, 440 volts only or dual voltage?
Is the spindle motor off my 1984 Easimill suitable for connection in delta and running off 220 volts through a vfd? As can be seen in the photos, the name plate shows it as being 440 volts 3 phase with no mention of 220 volts. Before I took the motor off the machine there were no brass/copper straps...

Re: What steppers are in an '84 Easimill?
I've now had one off and can't see any identifying marks. Would it be fair to say that the origonal 5 inch long Nema 34 steppers fitted in 1984 would have the same holding torque as modern steppers of the same physical dimensions bought today? I've seen another thread where the guy fitted motors to ...

Re: What steppers are in an '84 Easimill?
Its really the holding torque that I am trying to identify. The motors that are fitted at the moment (origonal) follow the Nema 34 standard and are 5 inches long. With them fitted to the machine I can't see any identifying details at all. I'll whip one off tonight and see if I can see anything that ...

What steppers are in an '84 Easimill?
Can anyone tell me what stepper motors are fitted to a Easymill of 1984 vintage?
I am considering up-grading the current motors but need to know what I have as a starting point.
Details of the machine, if needed are in this thread -

Re: Can I use an inverter with my easymill 3?
Thanks for that Angel-tech. Yes, it is the machine that came from South Wales. So if most of the electronics are single phase what could I (or an appropriatley qualified electrician) do. Would I be correct in thinking that I could separate the cnc side of the electronics and plug it into a 240v supp...

Can I use an inverter with my easymill 3?
Hello everyone. This is my first post and the first of many questions no doubt after I bought my Denford Easymill 3 last weekend. The machine is a 3 phase 1984 model with a belt driven spindle driven by a 3 phase motor. If I connect the machine up to an inverter, will it work ok? The coolant pump is...
